In a moment of panic when you cannot see anything because of a power failure, a flashlight kept handy saves a lot of trouble. The average camper may get to spend ten or twenty days per year sleeping out in the great outdoors.
As you grow into camping and gain experience, you can buy an RV or add quality camping gear. If there is an accident or mishap along the way, there will be more people to assist if you are camping or hiking with a group. You can buy bulbs for your flashlight for as cheap as about six dollars.
Learn to recognize and remember landmarks and while hiking try to familiarize yourself with your surroundings. If travelling with children, teach them to do the same and remain calm if they get lost. You may need to find a dead tree, a piece of driftwood or a large chunk someone else had and couldn't cut up for firewood.
Winter camping is an exciting outdoor activity; however, it is imperative that the camper has the appropriate equipment for this venture. No honking horns, no ringing phones, just the great outdoors.
