A flashlight is an indispensable part of every camping trip. If you have experience rock climbing, you may just think it is a hop, skip and jump to being able to handle ice climbing.
Many start out learning how to mountain climb by essentially hiking up hill. If you are camping in summer you will need a completely different type of tend than if you were camping in the rainy season. Also be sure to bring equipment and supplies in case of emergency or accident.
However, even in familiar areas you could just as easily get lost and you never know the quality of the printing on the maps, so do not risk getting the maps washed or smudged by rain or moisture. Your handy dandy axe is going to be critical and you need to master the technique before even thinking of climbing. Survival knives are supposed to be able to handle just about anything that you need them to do, from sawing through branches that can be used to make a shelter to catching and cleaning animals for food or digging for roots.
The umbrella style tents offer roomy head room for many people and is well-ventilated. First and foremost, note that mountain climbing, regardless of level, requires a certain amount of time, money, and fitness. Although waterproof matches are available, sometimes it is difficult to find tinder when winter camping.
You might want to ditch that old tent your father passed along to you, and upgrade to a contemporary one. Make sure you always check your equipment.
